“At first, I thought it was only the dog making noise, but it was his broken limb which was making him groan. I went near the dog and stroked his back. It seemed as if he felt much better. Mom, I think he liked that somebody cared for him.” Little Abhi narrated whole incident in a single breath.
“Ofcourse he did Abhi.” Mother pulled him into her arms.
“Mom, I did not know the way to a vet, so….”
“So what dear?” Mom asked.
“So, I have brought him with me Mom. Please don’t be angry.” Abhi was almost about to run.
“What? You brought him here? Don’t you know little puppies need utmost care and attention. I doubt I will be able to meet all his needs. Where is he?”
“In the garage.”
Mother rushed towards the garage. The puppy was lying still, with his eyes wide open, perhaps waiting for his new little master. His front left limb was bruised and blood clots were visible. Mother lifted him in her arms and brought him in the living room. She dialled vet’s number.
“They are coming. Don’t worry. He will be alright. But after that we need to find its real masters. We will hand it over to them as they will be worried.”
“Okay Mom. Thank you so much. You know I thought you will shout at me for I know you don’t want pets in the house.”
“Yeah, that’s true. But this little being is in pain and it is our first duty to look after him and then hand it over to the right people.”
She caressed Abhi and together they sat near the little puppy, looking at his shiny golden fur. He also seemed forgetting his pain with the warmth around him.
