“8, 9, 10…, I am coming!” Tim shouted and turned around to look for Percy.
“Percy, I know you are there. Don’t be oversmart. I will come find you.”
The two boys were playing hide-and-seek in the woods. They had come for a school picnic in the nearby resort which had its opening into a small forest land. Tim and Percy roamed around the resort and unknowingly reached the thick of the forest. Being 8 years old, they still thought they are in the resort. However, they were in the central area of the forest.
“Percy, where are you? I am getting scared. This place looks strange to me.”
Somewhere at a distance a loud roar was heard. Tim was scared to death. He tried climbing a tree and sat on a branch which was low. He saw the Jungle now. It was spread over a vast area. No human being could be seen around, forget about his school fellows. It dawned on him now. As soon as he understood, he started sweating badly. “Where is Percy? What happened to him? Did an animal….., no, no, no. I shouldn’t even think that. But how would I find him?” Little Tim’s mind raced with questions which had no answers.
It was almost an hour now. There was no sign of Percy. Tim had a dry throat. His forehead was dripping with sweat. He called out, “Percyyyyy”. “Where are you?” No response. It was getting dark. Poor Tim was missing his Mother. He was about to cry when he heard his name.
“Timmy…Timmy…..!!” Tim turned around to find Percy panting behind. Tim felt life coming back to him. He ran and hugged Percy. They both started crying.
“Where had you been Percy? I was dead scared for you.”
“So was I. I was lost. I wanted to hide in the farthest place from you. In that quest I went too far and found myself lost. I was hearing your voice….. but did not know which direction it was coming from…….. I even heard loud roars and hissing sounds. So, I did not know what to do…….. I kept trying to find you. I saw foot prints of school shoes and I guessed you must be nearby…… Good thing you did not move much and I finally found you.”
“Percy, I am so happy you are safe. I was so scared you know. I am just so glad you are here.” Tim was still getting over the fear.
“So am I Timmy. You know, I even saw a deer and a snake on a tree.”
Peeppp…… peppp…… peppp……
The School Bus was there. They had tracked the children with the help of a micro GPS tied to their wrist before the on set of picnic. Both boys looked at each other and smiled. They ran and got into the bus.
The returning journey saw adventurous tales of Tim and Percy. For what it’s worth, Tim and Percy knew they had found a life long best friend.
